The Rivers State House of Assembly is the legislative arm of the Rivers State Government, established in 1979 as one of the State Houses of Assembly under Section 90 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). The Assembly is vested with powers to legislate for the state and enjoys the privileges and immunities necessary to exercise these powers without hindrance.
The Assembly consists of 32 distinguished members elected from 32 state constituencies across the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State. Each member serves a term of four years and is responsible for representing the interests and aspirations of their constituents in the legislative process.
The current 10th Assembly was inaugurated on June 5, 2023, with Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, DSSRS as the Speaker. The Assembly convenes at the House of Assembly Complex located on Moscow Road, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
